Coronal Section - Genu & Body of Corpus Callosum

CategoryComplex Brains
LocationRack and row to be confirmed

Description

The genu curves anteriorly and gives rise to fibres forming the forceps minor, connecting the frontal lobes. The body forms the major central portion and carries fibres connecting extensive areas of the frontal and parietal cortices, allowing rapid transfer and integration of information between the hemispheres. The corpus callosum is an important site of injury in diffuse axonal injury (DAI) following severe rotational or acceleration–deceleration head trauma. Callosal haemorrhages or microscopic axonal damage may therefore be important findings in fatal traumatic brain injury.
