Oligodendroglioma - Involves Frontal & Parietal Lobes
Description
Oligodendroglioma is a diffuse primary glioma of the central nervous system, occurring predominantly in adults and commonly involving the frontal lobes, with possible extension into adjacent parietal regions. Seizures are a frequent presenting feature, while frontal involvement may produce behavioural or cognitive changes and parietal involvement may cause sensory or visuospatial deficits. Larger tumors can produce cerebral edema, mass effect and raised intracranial pressure. Modern diagnosis requires characteristic histology together with IDH mutation and combined 1p/19q codeletion, which define oligodendroglioma and have important prognostic and therapeutic significance.
