Ependymoma - Involves Linings of lateral ventricles
Description
Ependymomas are primary central nervous system tumors arising from ependymal cells associated with the ventricular system and central canal of the spinal cord. Intracranial ependymomas are particularly common in children and frequently arise near the fourth ventricle, although supratentorial tumors may occur near the lateral ventricles. Their growth can obstruct cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways, producing hydrocephalus and raised intracranial pressure with headache, vomiting and papilledema. Depending on location, patients may develop focal neurological deficits. Diagnosis and classification require histopathological and molecular evaluation.
