Astrocytoma - Involves Frontal & Temporal Lobes
Description
Astrocytoma may produce both neurological and behavioural manifestations. Frontal lobe involvement can cause personality changes, impaired judgment, apathy, disinhibition and motor deficits, while temporal lobe involvement may produce seizures, memory disturbances, language impairment and emotional changes. As the tumor enlarges, surrounding edema and mass effect may cause raised intracranial pressure, midline shift and brain herniation. The extent and biological behaviour of the tumor are assessed by imaging and confirmed by histopathological and molecular examination.
