The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the front part of the brain, located behind the forehead, that is responsible for higher-level cognitive functions. The PFC is also crucial for regulating emotions, social behavior, and inhibiting impulses, and it is the last part of the brain to fully mature, typically around age 25.
