Inferior cerebellum without brain stem

When the brainstem is removed, the inferior surface of the cerebellum is exposed in greater detail, revealing the full extent of the complex, deep cerebellar sulci and the structure of the flocculonodular lobe. This dissection highlights the inferior aspect of the cerebellar hemispheres, including the biventral lobule and the inferior semilunar lobule, separated by the deep horizontal fissure. The absence of the brainstem provides an unobstructed view of the cerebellar white matter superior to the fourth ventricle space and the superior and inferior medullary vela, which form the roof of the fourth ventricle. This view is particularly valuable in anatomical study and neurosurgical planning as it clearly outlines the boundaries of the cerebellum and the paths of the major cerebellar arteries—the PICA and AICA—providing a clearer understanding of the vascular territories and potential sites of stroke or hemorrhage without the brainstem obstructing the view.
